Ngày 8-5, Ban Quản lý đầu tư và xây dựng thủy lợi 10 (Bộ Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn) cho biết vừa nhận được thông báo từ Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn Tiền Giang đề nghị đóng cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành.
Theo thông báo từ Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn Tiền Giang, do ảnh hưởng của kỳ triều cường đầu tháng 4 âm lịch và do gió mùa Tây Nam chuyển về phía Đông Bắc nên mực nước triều cường trong đợt này cao.
Mực nước ngày 7-5 tại TP Mỹ Tho đo được 1,44m, đã làm cho độ mặn trên sông Tiền tăng nhẹ trở lại.
Đến sáng 8-5, độ mặn tại cầu Kinh Xáng, xã Song Thuận, huyện Châu Thành, tỉnh Tiền Giang (cách cửa sông 55km) đo được 0,69 phần ngàn và sẽ tiếp tục tăng trong vài ngày tới, sau đó sẽ giảm và rút dần ra cửa sông.
Từ tình hình diễn biến xâm nhập mặn nêu trên, Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn Tiền Giang đã đề nghị Ban Quản lý đầu tư và xây dựng thủy lợi 10 vận hành đóng cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành trước 13h ngày 8-5.
Cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành hiện đang được thi công, chưa hoàn thiện. Tuy nhiên, trong mùa khô năm 2023-2024, cống này đã phát huy tác dụng khi đưa vào sử dụng tạm.
Trước đó, cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành đóng cống vào ngày 1-3, đến ngày 2-5 mở cống khi độ mặn trên sông Tiền đã giảm. Đến nay (ngày 8-5) cống ngăn mặn này tiếp tục phải đóng vì độ mặn trên sông Tiền tăng cao.
Đại diện Ban Quản lý đầu tư và xây dựng thủy lợi 10 cho biết thời gian để đóng, mở cống mất khoảng 1 giờ đồng hồ và cần khoảng 5 nhân viên vận hành.
Cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành được khởi công vào tháng 11-2022 ở đầu kênh Nguyễn Tấn Thành, cách sông Tiền 420m, thuộc địa bàn 2 xã Song Thuận, Bình Đức (huyện Châu Thành, Tiền Giang).
Cống có tổng mức đầu tư hơn 518 tỉ đồng, dự kiến hoàn thành sau 24 tháng. Tuy nhiên, công trình đang vượt tiến độ và dự kiến hoàn thành trong tháng 7-2024.
Theo Ban Quản lý đầu tư và xây dựng thủy lợi 10, đây là cống ngăn mặn có quy mô lớn thứ hai ở miền Tây, chỉ sau cống Cái Lớn – Cái Bé (Kiên Giang) khánh thành hồi đầu tháng 3-2022.
Ban Quản lý đầu tư và xây dựng thủy lợi 10 sẽ đóng cống ngăn mặn Nguyễn Tấn Thành kể từ ngày 7-3-2024. Dự kiến mở lại cống vào ngày 12-4.
